As a destination wedding photographer, I mostly photograph couples from overseas. Yet every now and then it’s good to work with fellow Italian people on their most special day. On this occasion I also had the opportunity to work in Fiesole. It is a tiny little village on the hills surrounding Florence towards north. Incidentally, Fiesole is also where I got happily married to my lovely wife Carlotta. So I am definitely kind of bias to the place! Sorry about that 🙂
Fiesole was an independent town for several centuries in the early Middle Ages. No less powerful than Florence in the valley below before it was conquered by Florence in 1125. Over the centuries, rich Florentines had countryside villas in Fiesole to move away from the heat during the summer.
The route leading to Fiesole from Florence consists of a long and winding road that passes through the tuscan countryside. Fiesole is a popular destination for weddings due to its history (you can find an old Roman amphitheater) and the many beautiful tuscan villas all around among the vineyards.
Castello di Vincigliata is certainly one of these, and has been chosen by many VIPs to celebrate their wedding in Tuscany. And this is where bride & groom decided to host their “matrimonio” (wedding). The villa is actually a true castle with ramparts and a tower and one may think of being in a fairytale with princesses and dragons. The atmosphere here is kind of magic and certainly offers many opportunities for photography.
The view from the garden overlooks the city of Florence and adds that bit of extra pleasure to the eye, which is always welcome.
