Being an engagement photoshoot or a portrait session, we all want to look good. That is a fact. It is one of the most asked questions from my clients, who seek the photographer’s suggestion to look as beautiful as celebrities. “What shall I wear?”. As a destination wedding and portrait photographer, my duty is to give the best informed advice possible.
Believe me that is no easy question. One obvious reply could be to “dress to impress” but not everybody is keen on dressing up. From my experience, it is also not necessary. Some people look best in a tuxedo, some others in a pair of ripped jeans. It all comes down to your nature. If your soul is rock, don’t be afraid to dare and we are your favorite outfit.
Probably, the most useful tip I always give is to wear something that makes you feel comfortable. No matter who good the dress looks. If you don’t feel at ease, you will not look good in your pictures. “Less is more”, so make sure not to overdress, unless you are used to wearing fancy clothing. Ideally you want something that allow freedom of movement and expression.
Particularly for ladies, shoes can be tricky. Forget about those stilettos you have seen on Instagram, or if you really want to wear them, no matter what, do some practice beforehand. And always bring a pair of flat ballerinas to rest your feet every now and then. Not all images are full figure and walking transfers will be way easier. Especially around the backstreets of Florence, which is mostly cobbles. Or in the Tuscan countryside among vineyards and olive groves.
